AN OLD HOUSE

When I was 11 years old my mom's house burned.   We moved into two rooms of the house next door to us for part of a year.   The only lights in the rooms were bare bulbs hanging from the center of the ceilings, no inside plumbing, and our heat was from a big old cast iron pot bellied stove in the middle of the room.

They had no phone and my mother insisted on having a phone put in but the couple that lived there did not want it.   They argued and argued and somehow mom finally won that battle.

They were a funny old couple and of course I was a smart mouthed kid.   The womans name was "Minnie" and his name was "Harve" Mershon.

That name has a big history in Vermont and their ancestors were quite wealthy.  One time after we had moved they took a grandaughter and her baby on a camping trip down the East coast.   They went from Maine to Florida and then back up through to Vermont.   For the late 1940's or early 50's this was quite a trip.

Well, a nephew contacted me Sunday evening on Facebook and they went to Vermont and saw this house is for sale.   If you pull up   ReMaxVermont,IL.com   you can see pictures of it.    Needless to say it looks MUCH different now than when I lived there.

  1. What a gorgeous place! HUGE! Over 4,000 square feet...1.25 acres...and all for $189,000. Unimaginable in the area we are living in now.

  2. Well, there's not much else in Vermont. A bowling alley, the small factory and that's about it. I was shocked, too, at how low the price was.

I bet there are ghosts in that place. :)
