Sharing A Journey With A Friend with Breast Cancer

While we were volunteering in Louisiana we met this couple from Oklahoma.   Ted worked with Ken repairing lots of things on campus and though I did not work with Ken's wife, Linda, we became good friends.    We were all there three years together and shared some really fun times.

For various reasons none of us were scheduled to be there as Long Term Volunteers this Fall.   Ted did go down last week as a regular volunteer and helped with a lot of things.   But I'll let him tell you about his trip.

A couple of months ago we learned Linda has developed breast cancer.   She's been very open about her treatment and what she has been going through.   She has a very strong faith and I've seen her pull strength from that.

Two weeks ago she had her first chemo treatment.   At first it didn't seem to affect her at all but later that week it did kick in and she had some problems.

Now she has lost her hair.   I think this has bothered her more than just about anything else.   I'm not sure how this would affect me but I think I'd be a really big baby and cry a lot.

I think of Linda all the time.   I know she will get through this and be a stronger person for all she has to endure.   Life is so unfair sometimes.
